Summary: Firefighters are on the scene of 7 new lightning caused wildfires discovered burning yesterday and today on the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Thanks to quick initial attack response by fire crews, all except 2 of the fires have been held to less than 1 acre in size. Fire crews, including Smokejumpers were dispatched to the fires which are all burning on the Middle Fork, North Fork & Salmon-Cobalt Ranger Districts. See below for specific fire information and current size. All of the fires are related to this weekends strong thunderstorms and lightning. Several are burning in remote locations where firefighters had to be flown in by helicopter. The blazes are burning in timber and grass and reported fire behavior is active due to extremely hot and dry conditions. Firefighters are currently working to stop the fires from spreading and are putting containment lines around the blazes. Crews hope to have some of the fires contained by tomorrow morning.
