We suggest that you read through this document, especially if you are having problems with installation or running the application. ******************************************************** Running the CD ******************************************************** To enjoy all functions of this product, Adobe Reader 8.0 with Search or later is recommended. If you already have it installed, then no installation is required. Simply open the file named START.PDF located in the root directory of this disk to access the documents on this CD. Although an upgrade to the latest version for your system is recommended, this CD will also run with Adobe Reader 7 with Search. ******************************************************** Windows: Installing Files to your Computer ******************************************************** On Windows simply open InstallHB.EXE to install the Handbook files to your computer. PLEASE NOTE: The installation program will allow you to install Weather Station Data for Chapter 14 - Folder, STATIONS, in the root of your CD drive. If you choose not to install the weather station data during installation, you may install this data at a later time by simply copying the STATIONS folder from your CD-ROM to the same folder as the installed Handbook files, typically: C:\Program Files\ASHRAE\2009 ASHRAE Handbook\STATIONS ******************************************************** Using the Search Feature ******************************************************** To ensure the search performs correctly, you may need to install Adobe Reader 8.0 from this CD. Later versions of Reader may or may not be compatible with this CD if you are using a Macintosh. **PLEASE NOTE**: --You must install the Search option in order to use all functions of this CD. If Reader has an Edit -> Search menu option then you have the Search option installed. --On some Macintosh operating systems, the links to EXIT the CD may not work. In this case you may close the window manually. This CD's Search indexes, I-P_F09_INDEX.pdx and SI_F09_INDEX.pdx are set to

be automatically available. For Help using the Search functions, please refer to the CD Help (HELP.pdf) or to Adobe Reader Help. If you need to install Acrobat Reader with Search read on..... ******************************************************** Adobe Reader 8.0 System Requirements ******************************************************** Listed below are the minimum requirements for running the full Adobe Reader 8.0 with Search: Windows Intel Pentium III or equivalent processor Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 2 or 3; Windows Vista with or without Service Pack 1 128 MB of RAM (256 MB recommended for complex forms or large documents) 170 MB of available hard-disk space Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0, Firefox 1.5 or 2.0, Mozilla 1.7, AOL 9 Macintosh PowerPC G3, G4, G5 or Intel processor Mac OS X v10.4.11 10.5.5 128 MB of RAM (256 MB recommended for complex forms or large documents) 170MB of available hard-disk space Safari 2.0.2 We do not recommend running this CD application with less than the minimum requirements. The program may operate, but with significantly reduced performance. ******************************************************** Adobe Reader Installers and Instructions ******************************************************** This hybrid CD contains Adobe Reader 8.1.3 installers for Windows and Macintosh. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: If you are unable to install Acrobat Reader from this CD or need a different version for your system, you may freely download it from Adobe s website at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. After installation updates can be accessed and applied by utilizing the "Check for Updates Now" option under the "Help" menu in the toolbar. ---------MACINTOSH To ensure this product performs correctly, you must install the Adobe Reader version from this CD-ROM. **PLEASE NOTE**: --You must install the Search option in order to use all functions of this CD. --On some Macintosh operating systems, the links to EXIT the CD may not work. To install Acrobat Reader 8.0 with Search on your computer, open the file, \Adobe\Reader\AdbeRdr813_en_US_i386.dmg (Intel) or \Adobe\Reader\AdbeRdr813_en_US_ppc.dmg (PowerPC), found on the CD. ---------WINDOWS 2000, XP, and Vista Running the CD-ROM This CD features Autorun software to simplify running this CD and installing Adobe Reader. If Autorun is disabled you may begin accessing the files on this CD by opening START.pdf in the CD s root directory.
