Quality Assessment of Remote Sensing Digital Image Processing

Elif Aydin Atilim University, Ankara Turkey Abstract
The need for data integration for providing geographical information gathered from remote sensing technologies requires a careful quality assessment of digital image processing. This paper presents a combined method that can be used to improve the image quality by combining pre-processing and post-processing applications. The proposed method consist of three parts: Calibration, correction and accuracy assessment. In calibration, pre-processing steps are considered in order to remove the deficiencies in the data. For correction, both atmospheric and geometric corrections are applied. In the final step of the method, accuracy assessments are generated by considering postprocessing applications. The use of this combined method and the distinct effects are demonstrated by means of some examples. Experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The performances of the remotely sensed results are examined through the correlations of the data with ground control points. In addition to some earlier published methodologies, this paper aimed to show sufficient results by its combined methodology. Although the analysis has shown accomplished results, a few limitations took place in some parts of the study due to some accessibility problems related with data restrictions. Moreover, it is concluded that the study has proven to be useful and improves the quality assessment of remote sensing digital image processing in general.
