    The first convention of the International Council for the Indigenous Peoples of CHT (ICIP-CHT) was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 21-22 July 2012 with the participation of Jummas from a number of continents including Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. National and international observers from different countries were also present. The ICIP-CHT a global organization of indigenous peoples of the CHT endeavors to protect and promote Jummas civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights through the unified, coordinated action of Jumma institutions, organizations and networks, in alliance with progressive local, national, regional and international institutions, organizations and networks from within Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world. This mission statement and the constitution of the organization were adopted, and an 11 member Executive Board, headed by Dr. A K Dewan, was elected.
