Nick Joaquin is considered by many as one of the greatest Filipino writers of all time. He is best known for his short stories and novels in the English language. Joaquin was also an excellent journalist. In the fifties and sixties he began writing his reportage pieces under the pen name Quijano de Manila. These were journalistic workson crime, politics, entertainment and various celebritiesmarked with the brilliance of short stories and the depth but not the academic drone of sociological treatises. According to what I read, Nick is regarded the third most important writer overall, after Jose Rizal and Claro M. Recto. I first heard about Nick Joaquin when I was in 3rd year when my sister told me to read the book that she bought. The title of the book is The woman who had two navels, I was intrigued by the title and immediately read it. Personally while Im reading it, I feel bored because of the historic content of the story and other words that are very deep in meaning. My lack of interest in this type of stories was maybe because I was a 15 year-old guy who wants to read about adventures. I also know Mr. Joaquin for his works about Jose Rizal and his translation of Mi Ultimo Adios to English "Land That I Love,
Farewell".
