SUMMARY: The research study is about effective breastfeeding technique and pacifier use.

It aims to find out whether pacifier use and effective breastfeeding technique have any effect on breastfeeding problems and on breastfeeding duration. 579 mothers who had complete information on effective breastfeeding technique and pacifier use formed the population of this study that was conducted at Denmark. Results show that ineffective breastfeeding technique can lead early breastfeeding problems, which thereby influenced the duration of breastfeeding. Pacifier use had an independent negative impact in duration breastfeeding and pacifier should be avoided in the first weeks after birth. Relevance to nursing practice and local setting: In the Philippine set up, we seldom see mothers who do not know how to breastfed properly and they lack knowledge on what are the good effects of breastfeeding and the bad effects of using pacifiers and this event result also to an increasing and increasing population of malnourished children. This study gives us an idea on how to prolong and reduce problems on breastfeeding of our babies to complete it up to their six months of life. By this we now have the knowledge to encourage client not to use pacifiers in feeding their babies because according to this research pacifier use can lead to early cessation of breastfeeding. Relevance client: It is good to all mothers who wanted to breastfeed their babies up to six months of their live because this study gives us an idea to reduce the incident of cessation of milk coming from the mother by not using pacifiers.
