Using the printer when connected by parallel cable to a computer running Windows 95/98/Me/ NT/2000/XP.
Install the Printer Driver Setup the [Option] Tab Install the appropriate Printer Driver for the Operating System used. (See INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER - Installing the Printer Driver.) Configure Options. (See INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVER - Setting the Options Configuration)
SUPPLEMENT:
This machine can be used as a printer on a client-server network with Windows NT/2000 server or NetWare server, or on a peer-to-peer TCP/IP and IPX/SPX network. Also this machine can be used as a printer with Macintosh when it connects to the network. Using this machine as a network printer requires an optional network interface card. Refer to OPERATORS MANUAL FOR PRINTER FUNCTION - Network Setup for further details.
INSTALLED COMPONENTS
The printer software installation includes the printer drivers and the TOSHIBA Status Display.
SUPPLEMENT:
Several printer drivers may be installed on one computer.

q The Printer Drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display is provided for each OS. Be certain to use the right tools for your OS. q This CD-ROM contains a "README" file which describes precautions to note about the printer drivers and various applications. Please read it before installing the Printer Drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display.

G This manual describes settings for Windows 95. The setting details are similar for Windows 98, Windows Me, Widnows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. G To install the printer driver to Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, Full Control access rights will be necessary. A log on must be performed as a member of Administrators or Power Users group. For further details on access rights, see the Windows manual.
NOTE:
G Before installing the printer drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display, please be sure to exit all programs. G When your e-STUDIO16/20/25 is connected in local mode, the Windows Plug-and-Play function automatically starts the installation of the device driver in some environments. You can install the printer drivers by following this function as well as through the Windows Add Printer prompts. However, it is highly recommended that you select cancel at all prompts and install from the CD-ROM. This will ensure that all printer drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display components are installed at the same time.

SUPPLEMENT:
The installed printer driver can be used as a network print queue by setting this printer driver as a shared printer. This enables local area network clients to print with the eSTUDIO16/20/25 via the shared printer. For further information about a shared printer, refer to the Windows manual or on-line help.

Copy the TSBEST16.PPD to \RSRC\ENGLISH\PPD4 folder in the Adobe PageMaker Program folder.

Font Groups
AGFA Font Manager conveniently allows you to access basic operations through menu items. Please see the Help to learn more about them. AGFA Font Manager has a control bar to allow quick access to basic functions. Please see the Help to learn more about them. Displays the list of available fonts. It is from this list that you can select fonts to install in Windows. Displays the group of fonts which are installed and active under Windows. Create, delete, and modify the font groups. Font grouping allows you to create custom collections of fonts and give them meaningful names. Font collections can represent different working scenarios, different users of your computer, or different styles you want to convey.
NOTE:
For further details and operation of the AGFA Font Manager, press F1 to display the HELP window.

The following describes the printing procedure for Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP applications and how to cancel a print job. The application WordPad is used as an example.
IMPORTANT:
The printing procedure may vary depending on the application. For further details, refer to the instructions and the HELP menu attached to the application.
Printing
Open a WordPad document, then click on [Page Setup...] in the [File] menu.
q The [Page Setup] screen appears.
Click on [Printer...].
q The [Page Setup for Printer] screen appears.

Select the printer driver installed for the e-STUDIO16/20/25, then click on [OK].
PRINTING
IMPORTANT:
q The [Name] displayed here is the name given to the printer driver when it was installed, or the name as it was displayed on the icon in the Window's [Printer] folder.
Select the paper size and feeding direction, then click on [OK].
q Set the [Size] field to an appropriate paper size. q Set the [Source] field to a paper feeder which contains paper corresponding to the selected paper size. If no particular feeder is required, set at "Auto Select".

Make sure the [Name] field corresponds to the name of the installed printer.

Click on this to return the settings to the original factory defaults. This button is not provided on various tabs.
[OK]
Click on this to enter the input settings and complete the printer driver settings.
[Cancel]
Click on this to cancel the input settings and exit the printer driver properties menu.

Click on this to enter the input settings.
[Help]
Click on this when you want to see the HELP texts for the printer driver.

The [Output] tab sets the properties of the paper for printing, the gutter or margin space, duplex printing, sorting, layout printing (printing multiple pages on one sheet), even/odd page printing, destination designation, and profile.

Paper Size
This selects the size of paper for printing. NOTE: By selecting the Main Paper Size during installation of the printer driver, the default paper size value is set. Location
This selects the source for feeding paper. When different sized paper is loaded on several paper sources, select a paper source that correlates with the appropriate size. NOTE: It is set to Auto Select as a factory default. q Auto Select Automatically selects the paper set in the printer according to the document size for feeding. q Cassette1 Feeds paper from the Upper Recording Paper Tray. q Cassette2 (Optional) Feeds paper from the Middle Recording Paper Tray. q Cassette3 (Optional) Feeds paper from the Lower Recording Paper Tray. q Cassette4 (Optional for e-STUDIO20/25 Series only) Feeds paper from the cassette module at the Lower Recording Paper Tray. q Stack Feed Bypass (Optional) Paper is fed from the Bypass Tray. q Large Capacity Feeder (Optional for e-STUDIO20/25 Series only) Paper is fed from the Large Capacity Feeder.
Orientation
This sets the paper printing direction, to either Portrait or Landscape. NOTE: It is set to Portrait as a factory default.
Media type
This sets the media type of the paper. NOTE: It is set to Plain paper when shipped from the factory. q Plain paper Select this when using general plain paper. q Transparencies Select this when using transparent sheets. This is available only when the Bypass Tray is installed. q Labels Select this when using label paper. This is available only when the Bypass Tray is installed. q Cardstocks Select this when using cardstock paper. This is available only when the Bypass Tray is installed. q Letter Head Select this when using letterhead paper. This is available only when A4 or LETTER is selected for the Paper Size.
Number of Copies
This sets the number of printed copies. You can set any integer from 1 to 999. NOTE: It is set to 1 as a factory default.

Binding Margin
This selects whether or not the Binding Margin is set on the paper to be printed. NOTE: It is set with None when shipped from the factory. q None Select this when no gutter is to be set. q Left Select this when the gutter is set on the left side. q Right Select this when the gutter is set on the right side. q Top Select this when the gutter is set on the top of the paper.
Width
This sets the gutter width in millimeters or inches. For setting in millimeters, select mm and select a value from 10.0 to 50.8 mm in units of 0.1 mm. For setting in inches, select inch and select a value from 0.39 to 2.00 inches in units of 0.01 inch. NOTE: It is set at 0.39 inches (10.0 mm) as a factory default.

Tablet
SUPPLEMENT:
The icons of Book and Tablet on the Duplex Printing screen vary according to the Orientation and the Layout Printing.

Sort Mode
When numerous copies are made of the same document, printed sheets can be sorted. This function is useful for easy collation of printed material. For sort printing, check the box. Click on the Sort icon, select the sort mode desired, and click on [OK]. NOTE: The Sort check box is checked as a factory default.

SUPPLEMENT:
SETTINGS FOR PRINTING
When you select Magazine Sort, the printer automatically performs sorting of the printed pages and 2 in 1 printing. The 10 mm of the binding margin is automatically set in the center of paper. The 2 in 1 printing is done by changing the reduction rate according to the binding margin. q When Magazine Sort is selected, [Zoom] and [Enlarge/Reduce] is not available. [Output Paper Size] is the only option for selection. q Magazine Sort is available on A3, A4, A5, B4, B5, LEDGER, LEGAL, LETTER, STATEMENT, COMPUTER, and FOLIO.
q Alternate Sort
Select this for sort-printing and alternating the direction of the stacked output. The sort-printing is performed (1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3...) and the direction of the output is alternated to stack.
q Alternate Group
Select this for group-printing and alternating the direction of the stacked output. The group-printing is performed (1, 1, 1...2, 2, 2...) and the direction of the output is alternated to stack.

Layout Printing
This sets Layout printing (to print multiple reduce-sized images on one page). For Layout Printing, check the box. Click on the Layout Printing icon, select the desired illustration, and click on [OK]. NOTE: When Layout Printing is selected, Enlarge/Reduce Printing is not available. When Magazine Sort is selected, Layout Printing is not available. Layout printing is not enabled as a factory default.

This selects the destination of the output. NOTE: Paper Output Tray is selected as a factory default.
q Paper Output Tray Select this to route the output to the Paper Output Tray. q Job Separator Upper Tray (Available only when the Job Separator is installed and selected on the Option tab.) Select this to route the output to the Upper Tray of the Job Separator. q Job Separator Lower Tray (Available only when the Job Separator is installed and selected on the Option tab.) Select this to route the output to the Lower Tray of the Job Separator. q Finisher Tray1 (e-STUDIO20/25 Series only) Select this to eject the printed paper to the Upper Tray of the Finisher. Enlarge/Reduce
This changes the size of the printed image on the page. NOTE: Actual Size is selected when shipped from the factory. Enlarge/Reduce Printing is not available when: Layout Printing is checked.
q Actual Size Select this for printing the original at 100 %. q Output Paper Size Enlarge/reduce printing is performed based upon the size of the paper to be copied on. Set the size of the copy paper. q Zoom Enlarge/reduce printing is achieved by designating the zoom ratio. The paper size remains unchanged. Set the zoom ratio for printing using a numeric value. Any integer from 25 to 400 (%) can be set for the zoom ratio. When Magazine Sort is selected, Zoom is not available.
SUPPLEMENTS:
q When a watermark is designated, the designated watermark is enlarged/reduced for printing. q When no gutter is set in Binding Margin, the designated Width is retained without being influenced by the enlarge/reduce printing.

Special print settings or frequently used settings can be saved in the copiers memory. Printing can be performed by selecting the specific setting. NOTE: Profiles are unnamed when shipped from the factory.

This places a Watermark over the text of a printed document. A maximum of 30 different Watermarks (including Nothing) may be entered as watermark files.

Text
Input and displays the text of the Watermark that is newly created or edited.
Fonts
Set the font for the newly created or edited Watermark. NOTE: Times New Roman is set as a factory default.
Size
Set the font size for the newly created or edited Watermark. The font size can be set from 1 to 999 pt in units of 1 pt. Each font can further be set with a font style of Bold and/or Italic. NOTE: 72 pt font size is set as a factory default.
Darkness
This sets the shading (darkness) of the newly created or edited Watermark. The shading can be set from 0 (lightest) to 100 (darkest) in units of 1 point. NOTE: 50 points are set as a factory default.
Appearance
This sets the appearance (angle) of the Watermark. The angle can be set from 90 degrees to 90 degrees in units of 1 degree. NOTE: The angle is set to 0 degree (horizontal) as a factory default.

[Save]
Click on this to enter a new Watermark or to enter edited Watermark settings.
[Cancel]
Click on this to cancel the procedure for creating or editing a Watermark.
Position
This sets the watermark position to be printed. The position can be set from -50 to +50 in the X and Y directions. To print a watermark at the center of the paper, click on [Center].

Resolution
This sets the resolution for printing. NOTE: It is set at 600dpi as a factory default. q 600dpi Select this to print documents with an emphasis on resolution over speed. q 300dpi Select this to print draft quality or print documents with an emphasis on speed over resolution.

Gray Scale
This allows the user to change the grayscale for printing pictures or photos. NOTE: Use Printer Settings is selected as a factory default. q Use Printer Settings This uses the printers standard grayscale value. q Use Setting Below Allows the user to change the frequency of grayscale screen lines and the angle of the lines. The number of screen lines can be set from 1 to 999 in units of 1. The angle can be set from 0.0 to 360.0 in units of 0.1.
Resolution
This sets the resolution for printing. NOTE: It is set at 600dpi as a factory default. q 600dpi Select this to print documents with an emphasis on resolution over speed. q 300dpi Select this to print draft quality documents or to print documents with an emphasis on speed over resolution.

[PS] Tab
This tab appears only when the PS driver is installed, to show PS settings.
Print PS Information
On completion of printing, a PS error information page is printed, if there are errors. To print it, check the check box. NOTE: The box is checked as a factory default.
Job Timeout
This sets the time limit for sending a print job from the computer to the printer. When the set time limit is exceeded, printing is canceled (i.e., Job Timeout). The Job Time value may be set from 0 to 999 (seconds) in units of 1 second. If the Job Time is set to 0 (zero), no canceling of print jobs (Job Timeout) will occur. NOTES: It is set to 15 as a factory default. Do not set to 0 when the printer is used with a network connection.

Output
This selects the PS file output. NOTES: It is set at Printer as a factory default. The output cannot be changed and set to Printer when using Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. q Printer This outputs data to the printer, to perform printing. q Encapsulated PS file This does not output data to the printer but converts the data into a PS file. The stored file can be used by a DTP application

Displays the entered Group Numbers, and information on the printer driver version.
Group Number
Displays the Group Number entered at the time of the printer driver installation. The Group Number can be entered or selected under this tab when the printer driver is installed using the Add Printer wizard.
Save
Click this button to save the Group Number that you have assigned. When you click this button, the Input check screen appears. Click [OK] to submit the setting. This is not available if you have already set the Group Number.
[Version Information]
Click on this to display information on the printer driver version. The version information screen at right appears.

The Status Display will automatically start if [Yes] is clicked to automatically start the Status Display during installation. If you clicked [No] at the prompt, select the shortcut to the TOSHIBA Status Display in the TOSHIBA e-STUDIO folder from the Start menu under Programs to start the TOSHIBA Status Display.
Screen Views
The TOSHIBA Status Display has three different types of the screen views. qReduce View This screen displays the printer status only. To display this screen, select Reduce on the View menu. When you first start the TOSHIBA Status Display this screen appears. qExPand View This screen displays the printer status, how to recover if any problems occur, and the image of the printer status. To display this screen, select ExPand on the View menu. qIcon View The TOSHIBA Status Display icon is displayed in the status area of the Task bar. The icon color will change according to the printer status. Blue: The printer detects no error or warning. Yellow: The printer detects warnings. Red: The printer detects errors.

This sets the paper properties for printing. The settings are only applied when printing is performed without the printer driver. Items include the paper size, paper source, destination, number of copies, and orientation.

This selects the paper source for printing. If several different paper sizes are loaded into different paper sources, select the paper feed method which will use paper of an appropriate size. Orientation
This sets the paper printing direction to either Portrait or Landscape. NOTE: It is set to Portrait as a factory default.
Copies
This sets the number of copies to be printed. An integer in the range from 1 to 999 can be set. NOTE: It is set to 1 as a factory default.
Duplex
Set this to print on both sides of the paper. The Duplex Unit must be installed when it is set to ON. NOTE: It is set to OFF as a factory default.
Binding
This selects whether or not the Binding Margin is set on the paper to be printed. q Long Edge Select this when the gutter is set on the longer edge of the paper to be printed. q Short Edge Select this when the gutter is set on the shorter edge of the paper to be printed.

Offset Stack
Set this to print using the Offset Stack function. The Offset Stacker or Finisher must be installed when it is set to ON. NOTE: It is set to OFF as a factory default.

Page Protection
This sets the page protection function. A data overrun error may occur during the printing operation when there is a large amount of data on a page, because the system cannot analyze the data in time while printing. Page protection reserves additional memory and waits until the page is fully composed before starting the print operation in order to avoid a data overrun error. q Auto q On The printer analyzes each page and turns on page protection automatically only when it is required. The printer always keeps a sufficient memory reserve to ensure that a page can be fully composed.
Print PS Error
Set this to print a PostScript Error Report when an error occurs during printing with the PS driver. NOTE: It is set to Off as a factory default.

Line/Page
Select the number of lines which can be printed on one page. This only applies when printing text documents from an application which does not utilize a page setup feature. (i.e. The text is printing from MS-DOS.) NOTE: It is automatically set depending on the paper size.

PRINTER MODE
This section describes the printer function settings on the Control Panel of e-STUDIO16/20/25. These functions on the Control Panel are only available when the Print Unit is installed on your machine. The following are printer function items that can be performed on the Control Panel. CANCEL JOB: Cancel a job in progress. This only cancels the jobs in the process of printing. When a job is being received from the computer, the printer waits until the job is completely received before cancelling the job. Continue printing when the machine shows a warning status. When the warning status, Load XX paper in XX Tray, is displayed on the Message Display Panel on the Control Panel, the machine stops and pauses printing until the paper is loaded in the tray. Select CONTINUOUS PRINT to force the job to print. When the DETECT PAPER MISMATCH is set to OFF, the machine always prints the document without displaying the warning status. Enforce to print the job that was not printed for some reasons, such as the job has no End of Job data. Print the Configuration Page, Demo Page, PCL Font List, PS Font List, Status Log List, NIC Status Page, and Group Management List.

DETECT PAPER MISMATCH: Set to display a warning status when the paper size of the print job does not match the paper size in the cassette. RESTORE FACTORY DEFAULT: Restore all the printer settings to the factory defaults except the drum counter. LETTER HEAD PAPER: Reserve a particular Paper Tray to use when printing.
