On 15 August 1947 , India attained freedom from the British Rule.

Every Year , August 15 is celebrated as the Independence Day In India. This National festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country.

The preparation begin a month in advence. Roads are decorated with flags & buildings were illuminated

In June 1947, Muslims League and the Congress Party decided to partition India along religious lines. Thus under the provision of Indian Independence Act, two separate nation, India and Pakistan were born

On August 1947 India & Pakistan were created. India adopted the tricolour of Orange, White & Green With a blue Ashoka Chakra at the center. The Orange colour represented- Hinduism The White Colour represented - Peace The Green colour represented Islam.

On Independence Day Prime Minister of India hoists the flag and pay homage to the freedom fighters and addresses the nation. Early in the morning children attend the Flag hoisting ceremony in their schools and Play skits based on freedom struggle.

Under this Flag , there is no differences between a Prince & Peasant, between The Rich & The Poor, between Man & Woman .

On the morning of August 15, Prime Minister addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi

Kite Flying There is a tradition of


flying kites on the Independence Day. The sky is dotted with hundred of colourful kites and people engage in kite flying competitions.

Independence Day is a National holiday and the Television channels treat their audience with Patriotic Films and Songs.

Sarnath Lion - Adopted from the Buddhist Lion Capital of Asoka at Sarnath. It has four lions on a circular abacus which is girded by four animals, lion, elephant, horse and the bull in north, east, south and west direction.

The Jana Gana Mana was composed by Shri Rabindranath Tagore and first sung at the Calcutta
