The Eco Settlement Development in City Strategic Area of Cikapundung Watershed, Case Study: Cikapundung River in Bandung By Anton

Sunarwibowo, Local Development Planning Board of Bandung City The Cikapundung river is a one of big river that across the city area from Northern to Southern part. The total length of Cikapundung River located in Bandung is around 15.6 Km. It is connected to the household with more than 538.097 populations in 10 sub district. The river and its watershed have some strategic roles, such as: source for raw water, main drainage system, economic activities and the high density settlement. The existing condition shows the existence of urban deprivation, such as: slump area, inappropriate sanitation facilities, and bad water pollution. One of the main reasons for those is low quality in land use management. Therefore the land use plan, especially for human settlement area becomes critical issue. The city government try to improve the Cikapundung watershed condition by determined that area as a strategic area for urban renewal. The Spatial Plan for Cikapundung Strategic Area has been developed in 2011, including the development of eco settlement along its watershed. This article tries to explain the main point of The Cikapundung Strategic Area Plan, which consists of: the main issues, the concept of area development and the strategies for implementation. That plan also includes the integration of three aspects for sustainable development, namely: environment, economy and social aspects by defining the Cikapundung watershed area into three zones with respect to the environment conservation, creative economy development, also cultural and heritage preservation. Moreover, this article will explore more about eco settlement approach in specific zone and its implementation through collaborating among government, academia, NGO and community.
