Begin search in Cobalt IP Login to Cobalt IP and search for telecommunications

2. Enter Search Criteria Using the drop-down boxes on the left, select the H04L patent class, the proper assignee (Qualcomm in the example), and add EP and WIPO to the Collection box.

3. Order results Click Forward Cites to reorder the results to display patents with the most forward citations on top

4. Copy Results Copy the patent numbers from the Cobalt IP results

5. Search in DWPI Search the patent number from Cobalt in DWPI and click on the search result

6. View Citations Click on Full View and select Citations

7. View Forward Citations Click on Expand Citing Patents and click on View Result Set

8. Select Charts From the new result set, select Charts from the Analyze drop-down box

9. Create Forward Citation Chart Click on the Citations tab and Select the Forward Citation chart

10. Select Data Find the desired company from the chart and copy the number of citations

11. Analyze Data The analyst can determine how successful a companys patents are with both the number of forward citations and the number of citations from the company
