Alan Redfern has worked as a full-time, professional arbitrator for the last twe lve years, since leaving

the international law firm Freshfields (where he was th e senior litigation partner) and joining the Chambers of Lord Grabiner QC at One Essex Court. He is a leading authority on international commercial arbitration and has acted as chairman, sole arbitrator or party-nominated arbitrator in numerous cases, no t only in London but worldwide. He believes strongly in effective case managemen t by arbitral tribunals and in the prompt delivery of Awards. Alan Redfern is experienced in the conduct of ad hoc arbitrations, as well as th ose conducted under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and under the leading arbitra l regimes, including ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, AAA and ICDR. These arbitrations have included insurance and reinsurance claims; research, development and distributio n claims; international joint venture agreements; damage claims in different are as of activity, including plant supply, computer software, telecommunications an d financing; international construction projects; oil and gas industry claims, b oth onshore and off-shore; and international defence contracts. Alan Redfem has also given expert evidence in matters relating to international arbitration. He is a Vice-President of the International Court of Arbitration of the Internat ional Chamber of Commerce in Paris.He is a former non-executive Director of the LC IA. He is co-author of Redfern and Hunter on "International Arbitration", which is now in its fifthedition (2009) and a contributor to "The Leading Arbitrators' Gui de to International Arbitration". Alan Redfern gave the annual Queen Mary College/Freshfields lecture (on dissenti ng opinions) in 2004 and the annual Master's Lecture of the Company of Arbitrato rs in the following year. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrato rs and a member of the International Bar Association and the Swiss Arbitration A ssociation. He is on the international panel of the American Arbitration Associa tion and of arbitral institutions in Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere.
