One of the most prominent search engines was initially named "Jerry and Davids Guide to the World Wide Web". This was named after the founders Jerry Yang and David Filo. The word Yahoo! was invented by Jonathan Swift and used in his book Gullivers Travels. It represents a person who is repulsive in appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo! Founders Jerry Yang and David Filo selected the name because they considered themselves yahoos. Its an abbreviation for Yet Another Hierarchal Officious Oracle.
