G Major Scale Introduction

Remember that a Major Scale has the following whole steps and half steps? WWHWWWH If that is applied to start on G, then the G Major Scale will have one black key, F#. G Major Scale G A B C D E F# G Explanation: G to A is a whole step, A to B is a Whole Step, B to C is a half step, C to D is a Whole Step, D to E is a Whole Step, and E to F# is a WHOLE step, then F# to G is a Half Step. Rather than write the F# in every where in a piece, musicians use a key signature at the beginning of the piece which stands for the F#. Key Signature: the sharp(s) or flat(s) located at the beginning of each staff. It indicates which notes are sharp or flat throughout the piece. The G Major Key Signature is called F# Indicates to play F# throughout the piece on any F that is written. Only Fs are sharped, and this goes for the entire piece past all the bar lines. If you see an F# at the beginning of a piece of music, it means that you are in the key of G major. G Major Scale One Octave Right Hand Only
