SAFETY MEASURES IN BIOCHEMISTRY LAB

Maintain a clean and well-organised work place. Follow a pre-planned procedure sheet while performing the experiment. Wear lab coat/overall for all experiments. Wear goggles/eye shields for specific tests. Use gloves while handling corrosive chemicals. Keep chemical bottles, test tubes, pipettes and other equipment away from the edge of the working table. Do not carry more than one glassware while carrying them elsewhere. Recap the reagent bottles after use. Do not eat or drink in the lab. Hold the tubes upright while heating them. Never pour water into acid. Always use pipette dispenser for transferring chemicals and avoid mouth suction. Report to the instructor in case of accident. Maintain silence and order. Do not rush around. Never do tests near overhanging or open electrical wires. Do not touch any switch with wet hands. Do not put water over electrical fires.
