RSC Word 2007 Template (Version 3.2) Basic Principles The ".

dotm" file in this archive is a styles-based Microsoft Word 2007 template designed to mimic the look of a journal printed page. All the necessary font siz e, style and spacing values are pre-set in the template and shouldn t need changin g or modification. Changing the font size, paragraph spacing, page borders or a ny other presentation parameter will result in the final page layout being incor rect, and as such the document produced will not be an accurate reflection of th e length of the final published paper. It is highly recommended that the document is viewed in "Print Layout" mode, as this provides the best way of determining the length of the manuscript. It is al so recommended that the page borders and non-printing characters are made visibl e during editing (there are buttons on the "RSC Tools" toolbar at the top of the screen which facilitate this). Note: The formatting data for a paragraph is "stored" in the paragraph character () at the end of the paragraph. If this is deleted or overtyped, the formatting is lost. To open a new document: Insert the template ".dotm" file into your Word templates directory (in Word, cl ick on the "Office" button, press the "Word Options" button at the bottom of the dialog box, click "Advanced", scroll to the bottom of the options and click on the "File Locations button" to find the path to your User Templates directory, t hen copy the file into that directory). Then, from the Office button select "New ", click on "My Templates", and select the RSC template. Using the template You are encouraged to browse the entries in the RSC Template Help window, which is part of the template and accessible from the "RSC Tools" toolbar. These give further guidance and tips to help you use the template.
