CLASSIFICATION: CNS agent, narcotic (opiate)agonist, analgesic

2. Dose range and routes for adult & geriatric client.

PREPARATIONS: PO

DOSING: (tablets) 5mg, 15mg, 30mg; (oxycontin) 10mg, 20mg, 40mg, 80mg, 160mg sustained release tablets; (oral
sol’n) 5mg/ 5ml, 20mg/ml

THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS: active against moderate to moderately severe pain. Appears to be more effective in relief of acute
than long-standing pain

USES: moderate to moderately severe pain such as bursitis, dislocations, simple fractures and other injuries, neuralgia. Relieve
post-op, postextractional, postpartum pain.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: alcohol and CNS depressants add to CNS depressant activity
