ELEMENTS OF PLOT
Exposition The beginning of a work of literature that explains the basic conflict, names the most important characters, and identifies the setting

Rising Action Rising action is an escalation of the conflicts introduced in the exposition. The conflict is seen more often and the consequences of the conflict are often greater. Climax Climax is the point in a piece of literature where things change as a result of the conflict, and they can never be the same again. It is often the most exciting part of the story. Falling Action Falling action occurs directly after the climax. Other characters in the piece of literature are often told what happened at the climax during the falling action. Conclusion The conclusion of a piece of literature ties up all the loose ends and often gives a hint about how things will continue after the end of the literary work.
