Adding Integers Activity
Adding Integers Activity
Adding Integers on a number line is easy. First start by making a number line and numbering 0 in the middle and going out from there. Go to the appropriate ending for numbers. If your problem is -1 + 1 then you take the first number (-1) and put on it on the number line. Then do the second number (1) and since you to add you draw a line to the next number (0). If the number was +2 then you would draw the line to the 1. And so on for each problem.
Anytime you add two numbers with opposite signs you always get 0. The reason is when you add something, and take away what you just added, then you have nothing left.
When adding numbers with different signs if the positive number is bigger, then the sum will be a positive, as with the negative number. For example -6 + 5 = -1 or 7 + -4 =3. When adding numbers with the same signs you always get the same sign as the two number added. Like in -5 + -5 = -10 and 4 + 4 = 8. Negative + Negative = Negative. Positive + Positive = Positive.
