Discovery of Electrons

An English physicist, Sir J.J. Thomson, observed the particles of the cathode rays. These rays traveled in straight lines as they cast a shadow on the fluorescent screen when an opaque object was placed along the path. In another experiment, the path of the rays bent towards the positive plate. His reason was that cathode rays must be made of streams of negatively charged particles of matter. He named those negatively charged particles electrons.
