Reaction paper This article talks about why there is a need to teach grammar within a meaningful context.

The author is mainly concerned with the focus on form technique. Rodriguez briefly covers the history of grammar teaching, in which she says that teachers should use a combination of implicit and explicit approaches to grammar teaching. She the starts to mention why and when grammar should be taught. For example, allowing beginning level learners to focus on comprehension and vocabulary development before attempting the focus on form technique. She particularly emphasizes the need for grammar to be taught in context of current lessons as opposed to an isolated grammar lesson. Rodriguez describes several instructional techniques, implicit and explicit, as well as activities for teaching grammar, such as error correction strategies and collaborative dialogues. Any planned or incidental instructional activity that is intended to induce language learners to pay attention to linguistic form, Ellis (2001). So we can say that it is important to know when to start using the focus on form approach in order for it to have effect on the students so that results of their language learning are positive. Teachers should also have the knowledge to observe each student and apply the focus on form according to their linguistic needs. Some students will be a little faster at learning than others so it is just a matter of when to apply it. Motivating the students is another key element to this technique and any other technique. If students dont feel motivated or feel they have progressed as they go through the course, it probably will not have a good result at the end.
