1. Individual Sort: 1. Read quickly through all sorting chips 2. Place each exemplar in a different column 3. Sort words 4. Record sort on your paper. 2. Brainstorm Sort: 1. Write exemplars at the top of your paper 2. Think of as many words as you can that fit into your categories 3. Write the words on your paper under the correct exemplar. 3. Speed Sort: 1. Read quickly through all sorting chips 2. Place each exemplar in a different column 3. Sort word chips as quickly as you can (have someone time you or use a timer) 4. Record your time on the top of your paper 5. Do it again to see if you can match or beat your time.

Open Sort: 1. Read quickly through all sorting chips 2. Think of a way to sort your word chips (any way you want) 3. Write exemplars on a sticky note or pieces of paper 4. Sort your word chips 5. Write your sort on your paper.

5. Writing Sort: 1 Read quickly through all sorting chips 2. Put chips in a stack 3. Write exemplars on your papers 4. Draw one chip from the top of the stack 5. Write the word under the correct exemplar 6. Discard chip in another pile 7. Continue drawing a new chip, writing, and discarding all the chips. 6. Word Hunt: 1.Write exemplars on your paper 2. Hunt for words around your house and in books for words that fit in your categories 3. Write the words under the correct exemplar on your paper. 7. Verbal Hunt: 1. Mix up your chips and make a stack 2. Keep in mind the exemplars, but dont look at them 3. Look at the first chip and say the word then say the exemplar the word would fit under 4. Go through the entire stack saying the word on the chip then say the exemplar word it fits under.
