CH : 1 CHIR SQARE TEST

TOPIC FOR PRESENTATION YATES - CORRECTION

X2 is a continous distribution and it fails to maintain its charactristic of continuity if any of the expected frequency is less than 5 . So in a 2 * 2 contigency table with cell frequancies

F Yate s in 1934 suuggested that a correction known as Yates Correction of continuty.

In a 2 * 2 contigency table if any cell frequancy is less than 5 calculated ad and bc.

IF ad < bc add 0.5 in a and d and subtract 0.5 from b and c.

IF bc < ad , add 0.5 in b and c and subtracts 0.5 from a and d.

After applying Yate s correction the value of X2 is calculated and it is compared with the table value of X2.

For example :

From the following table , determine whether inoculation is effective over the diease.

ad = 2 * 6 = 12 bc = 10 * 6 = 60. 12 < 60 . ad < bc We shall add 0.5 in each of a and d and subtract 0.5 from the each of b and c.
