Objective (s) Here is the scenario: I invite you to imagine that you are giving a speech titled The Future of College Sports to an engaged audience at a conference on higher education. While the conference is not directly dealing with college sports, as we have seen, college sports are inextricably linked to American higher education. Therefore, in your speech you aim to recount the rise of college sports and then outline how college sports, as currently constructed, fit or do not fit into OUs mission statement as seen below: Never forget: The mission of the University of Oklahoma is to provide the best possible educational experience for our students through excellence in teaching, research and creative activity, and service to the state and society. In other words, using our readings, chart the history of college sports and then reflect on how well OU incorporates sports into their mission statement. When evaluating your essay, I will be looking for the following: Construct a clearly articulated main thesis and motive Point to specific words or passages in the class reading Connect with your audience Consistent stance Properly format your essay according to MLA guidelines
