10 Behavioral Codes from the BEI with Ms.

Shivani Bhogra On the very first day of my floor visit I noticed something; it may be a very small thing to observe, that the people working in the floors doesnt smile. After interacting with the rank & file personnel I felt that, they remain so stressed throughout the day and hence have lesser bandwidth to smile and relax. Also, I realized that handling it is going to the most challenging job of mine. I could feel that the Rank & File personnel are the most discriminated employees in the organization and badly demarcated by separate uniforms, ID cards & separate exits etc. & I realized that the scenario needs to be corrected as soon as possible. Observing the organization more closely it was clear to me that the Rank & File personnel are the main revenue generators of the company and should be treated well by allocating additional benefits & discriminatory practices should be eliminated. I communicated the plan to my seniors during our annual meet at Philippines and the Group HR head agreed with my view. The Group HR head expressed that he also had the idea and tried to implement the same but it failed. I was from HR background and could relate the reason why the implementation failed as the Group HR head was basically an operations personnel who was shifted to group HR designation. After getting the approval from the Group HR Head, prime challenge to me was to buy-in the concept from other business unit heads and I was focused to my goal to implement the intervention. I didnt go for a head-on collision with the BU heads and started collecting the positive responses first & started building consensus to eliminate discriminatory practices like separate uniforms, ID cards, Separate exits etc. Before my joining the HR department was very scattered in nature & seldom interacted with each others, I made the team to work together with the people of my organization. After the successful implementation, the Rank & File designation was replaced with a good name and people have been offered with equal opportunities & status like other employees in the organization. It improved their morale & motivation, and that was my biggest achievement in past 4 years.
