Relief bag or survival kit had seemed so far from those major Thai peoples recognition
as we had lived in peaceful conditions so long. Some people might not imagine stuffs
inside the bag or the kit; just knew that those must be necessary for unusual life. Its
such a dark comedy that many Bangkokkians and those who live in the middle region of
Thailand have known the relief bag very well due to the severe flood in the regions last
year. Whats more, the recent flood in Sukhothai early September has made the citizens
in the ancient capital of Siam appreciate those necessary things in the bag as well.
The Red Cross Society of Thailand informs that the relief bag must has dried food,
canned food with opener, drinking water, torch, candle, first aid kit, napkin, tissue paper,
toe post sandal, plus whistle for calling other people in emergency situation, nylon rope
to tie something and plastic plates with tape for making temporary shelter.
Luckily, as a good preparation around Ping River, Chiang Mai people may not use relief
bag this year. But it might not for those who are in the middle region. Hope our friends
are lucky, living without those survival kits.

Arada is the name of the Wedding Photographer Chalermphon Polawats wife

(Arada Polawat). Also, this is the name of his photographing studio Arada Photographer.
Graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, Chalermphon was
an architect for many years and found photographing is more fun and fascinating,
then he quit his architecting career and run his wedding photographing service
instead. Anyway, he still sketches the house plan, and his latest work is his own
house a two-floor bare concrete building which he lives with his wife and a cute
young Golden Retriever. Though all the house is modern style, made of bare concrete,
many decorations are contrast such as British vintage style clock, wooden furniture,
etc. The owner said that different details makes the house lively. It is surely better
than keeping a house in only modern style.

Jakchai Butsrikul is the owner of Librarista, the coffee

shop plus library on Nimmanhaemin Soi 5. He was
graduated in Engineering science from Chiang Mai and
the master degree from Tokyo. After the decade of
working in telecom field, he found unattractive in his
work, then he quitted and traveled somewhere as a
backpacker. He just launched the guidebook Horizon :
Tibet and as he prefers to read book in a coffee shop
almost everywhere he visited, the Librarista was then
established. Librarista provides fresh coffee and other
beverages as well as novels and books of philosophy,
art, history, etc. for customers to read and members
can bring them back home. His happiness is not only
the time he is traveling, but the passion comes from
when he researches information and history concerning
the destinations he plans to visit.

Apart from being a Chiang Mai based celebrity who is always found in

products in several high social events, Tom-Poomjai Burusapat, the owner of
the most famous northern tradition restaurant in Chiang Mai Huen Phen, has
another side of his life. Working as a social worker for
Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, his job is all day working with poor patients, paupers, disables, etc. - different world from his general social appearance. Tom said this job must require a real passion to work as the working
environment is unpleasant, so the persons in charge must has a helping mind
to support those poor people. If your deep mind dont like this environment,
you cannot work so long, said him. Poomjai work at the hospital almost 30
years, riding a motorbike to work every day while in the night he dresses gorgeous clothes and stays lively.

1994

Antonio Tabucchi is an Italian writer who had just
passed away on 25 th March 2012. Recently, his 2
novels is now published in Thai language which are
Sostiene Pereira (or According to Pereira) and
Notturno indiano. Both of them were translated
directly from Italian language by Nantawan Chanprasert. Sostiene Pereira is a 1994 novel following
Pereira, a journalist who struggles with his conscience
and the restrictions of the fascist regime of Antonio
Salazar. Antonio Tabucchi won the Premio Campiello,
Viareggio Prize and Premio Scanno in 1994 for the
novel. It was adapted into a film, also in 1996, starring
Marcello Mastroianni. Indian Nocturne is a 1984
novella telling the story of a man on a search for his
mysterious friend in India.
