Core Concepts of Trauma Informed Child Welfare
Description: This workshop examines social work ethics in practice with traumatized children and their families. Referencing the NASW Code of Ethics (1996) , participants will explore the complexity of childhood trauma and the wide range of reactions experienced by traumatized children and their families. Specific attention will be given to examining the manner in which danger and safety are concerns in the lives of traumatized youth. Objectives: Participants will learn to: Explain how traumatic experiences are inherently complex. Examine social work ethics in practice with traumatized children and their families. Examine the manner in which danger and safety are core concerns in the lives of traumatized children. About the Presenter: Adam McCormick, MSW, PhD

at St. Ambrose University. He teaches and researches in the areas of child welfare and child trauma. He has published and presented on a number of topics, including the role of the sibling relationship in foster care, and the maltreatment experiences of LGBT youth. Prior to teaching at St. Ambrose, Dr. McCormick worked in a variety of child welfare settings as a therapist, houseparent, and most recently as the Director of Presbyterian Childrens Homes and Services in Austin, Texas. He has an MSW from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD at the University of Texas at Arlington. ONLINE reservations now accepted!
