Hydrogenation plant

Uses-to convert oleic acid to stearic acid Plant layout-

Hydrogen bullet
Large volume Continuous supply of hydrogen at constant pressure Small cylinders are unloaded into bullet

Preheater
to reduce load in the autoclave

Autoclave
Has 4 heating coils with valves Agitator

Process
F.A. introduced from above Nickel catalyst from the hopper Then hydrogen sparged from the bottom Reaction time is 1 hour and temp is 220 C Process time is 2.5 hours Material discharged in to the flash chamber F.A. is sent to a plate and frame filter

Plant capacity
2 autoclaves with 4.5 and 4.7 ton capacity

Stearic acid produced is sent for blending or FADP to make it purer. Safety

Glycerine distillation
Sweet water from FSP as feedstock dark brown in colour Evaporator-85% in conc ,light brown in colour Double or triple effect evaporator is used Sent to distillation column Under vacuum BP of glycerine goes down to 150 C Both water and glycerine gets distilled and residue remain

Collected in a condenser vacuum at 140 C Only glycerine condenses not water Uncondensate material is sent to another condenser This glycerine is turbid in colour Sent to bleachers. Activated carbon, filter press Glycerine of 99% conc is obtained
