Have the ability to describe and explain the main principles of biohazard, safety associated with biohazard and process equipment involved. Have the ability to describe and solve problem involved in toxicology and industrial hygiene. Have the ability to compare and apply the various hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies HAZOP, ETA and FTA, and QRA Have the ability to apply and communicate the knowledge on biosafety and health in addressing causes, consequences, control, preventive measures and management system to prevent accidents in a hypothetical plant and biosafety legal issues.

Ability to communicate effectively not only with engineers but also with the community at large, particularly with life scientists and chemists. Ability to observe the principles of health, safety and environment (HSE) in chemical and bioprocess industries. Ability to function effectively as an individual and in a group with the capacity to be a leader or manager as well as an effective team member.

Examination: 60%

a) Attendance is compulsory. Students who failed to comply with 80% of attendance will be barred from sitting for the final examination. Absence from lectures, tutorials, tests or presentations must be supported with relevant documentation. b) Marks will be deducted for late submission of assignment/ report. c) Consultation is by appointment only. d) Any form of cheating and plagiarism in examinations, tests, reports and assignment will be penalized.
