January 27, 2011 Mr. Ken Cook President Environmental Working Group 1436 U Street.

NW, Suite 100 Washington, DC 20009 Re: EWG Bottled Water Scorecard Report

Dear Mr. Cook: The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), the trade association representing the bottled water industry, including United States and international bottlers, distributors, and suppliers, is greatly concerned by the recent Bottled Water Scorecard report issued by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). That report makes false, misleading, unsubstantiated, and disparaging claims about the labeling and quality of bottled water. In particular, we are concerned that the report grades bottled water brands based on criteria that are subjective and irrelevant to any legal requirements. Thus, bottled water brands that are in full compliance with Federal and state labeling laws are nonetheless consistently given a low grade by EWG. We find such criteria to be completely arbitrary and irrelevant, and hence grossly misleading to consumers. Our response to such statements in the EWG report is set forth in the attached document. IBWA demands that the Environmental Working Group immediately cease and desist from making and propagating false, misleading, unsubstantiated, and disparaging statements about the labeling and quality of bottled water. We also demand that EWG correct the record by posting our response on the EWG website. Please confirm in writing that EWG has ceased making, publishing, or disseminating these false and misleading statements, as discussed in our attached response report. We would welcome an amicable resolution to our concerns and look forward to your reply. Sincerely,

Joseph K. Doss President and CEO
