Cable thieves target Upper Town Thieves stole over 10,000 worth of copper cabling from the Upper

Town on Sunday. They climbed over the walls of the old prison and stripped all the wiring. The Tower of Homage and the Moorish Castle ticket office have been affected and are currently using generators until the damage to the wiring installations have be en repaired. The spotlight at Moorish Castle is also temporarily out of action. It is said that the thieves also cut through live electricity cables, causing a power cut. The Gibraltar Electricity Authority has stated It cannot be stresse d enough that the theft of cable is a criminal offence but it can also be an ext remely dangerous practice. Clearly, cutting through live operational cables can cause serious injury or even death. The Royal Gibraltar Police are currently inv estigating the incident. Campaign against dog fouling Anyone who has walked around Gibraltar recently knows that the campaign against dog fouling is much needed and will be gladly welcomed. The campaign is being r un by The Environmental agency who this Saturday will have a stall in Casemates to raise awareness of the problem. The Stall will be located in Casemates and o pen at 10.30 a.m. During the morning Minister for Health and the Environment, D r John Cortes will visit the stall where he will be able to see a pamphlet issue d today by the Environment Agency, which highlights the problems with dog foulin g and how to combat it. It also gives information concerning the fixed penalty charge of 150 for failing to pick up animal faeces. It also lists the areas in ibraltar where dogs are forbidden, including all Gibraltar beaches, The Alameda Gardens, The adventure playground off Winston Churchill Avenue, Rosia Saluting B attery Promenade, Garden opposite the western entrance to the Cathedral of the H oly Trinity, Sir Herbert Miles Promenade, Line Wall War Memorial Promenade, the childrens playground at Camp Bay, The childrens playground at the southern end Eastern Beach, The Piazza at John Mackintosh Square, The paved north section of Governors Parade, The raised promenade being part of Alameda Estate situated on he east side of Rosia Road and bounded on the north and south sides by Rosia Roa d and on the east side by Alameda Estate, The raised piece of land being part of the right flank of South Bastion situated on the west side of Line Wall Road op posite the John Mackintosh Hall and bounded on the north side by Wellington fron t, The childrens playground adjacent to Key House in the Moorish Castle Estate, lower beds and other planted areas adjacent to the public highway and in other p ublic places. Gibraltar National team win the European Federation of Sea Anglers Shore Champio nships Minister of Sport, Steven Linares congratulated the Gibraltar national team yest erday for winning the championships held in Akueri, Iceland. Mr Linares declared I am extremely proud that once again Gibraltarians excel in an international com petition. Mr Dario Mir came in third and won the prize for the most number of f ish caught. MR Charlie Lara came in fourth and won the most number of species ca ught and was first in the four-man team event. Mr Charlie Carerras came in fifth and was first in the two-man team competition.
