ABSTRACT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE LEVEL AND ECONOMIC STATUS WITH ANEMIA IN PREGNANT WOMEN IN SUKAMAJU TELUK BETUNG

Anemia in pregnant women can increase the frequency of complications in pregnancy and childbirth, which may increase the risk of fetal death, prematurity rates, low baby birth weight , and perinatal mortality. In Indonesia prevalence of anemia in pregnant women based on household health survey in 2001 reached 40.1%. The number of pregnant women who consumed iron (Fe) tablets in Bandar Lampung, especially in Tanjung Karang Barat district, only 73.191% and have the lowest percentage of iron (Fe) tablets consumtions.

This study is a descriptive analytic study with cross sectional design conducted in integrated health posts located in the working region of the Sukamaju Clinic (communitiy health centers) Kecamatan Teluk Betung Barat and in that clinic itself. Number of samples in this study is 82 pregnant women who choosed using consecutive sampling method. Data in this study were analyzed using Chi Square.

The results showed a significant association between the level of knowledge with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women with p-value 0.021 it is smaller than 0.1 (0.021 <0.1). The results also showed a significant association between economic status with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women with p-value 0.032 it is smaller than 0.1 (0.032 <0.1).
