Evaluation of Existing RC Structure: Probabilistic investigation of the influence of the uncertainties in the material properties and the reinforcement

percentage

SUMMARY

The necessity of evaluation of the seismic performance and the fragility of existing structures, acquires great importance if man considers the percentage of structures designed with deficient or total absence of antiseismic standards in Greece. Through this project, it is being attempted probabilistic investigation of the seismic performance of such structures, through the assumption that some, critical for the response, structural parameters follow certain probabilistic distributions. For the achievement of that goal, a short existing RC building representative to the buildings built around 1970 is being investigated. The parameters chosen as random variables are, the concretes compressive strength, the steels yield stress and the geometric percentage of reinforcement of the columns in every floor. For the probabilistic combinatorial elaboration of the variables, it was used the Latin Hypercube method. Thereinafter, it was conducted a package of a total 100 non-linear static analyses (Pushover) using the commercial software SAP2000 v.14.2.2 developed by Computers and Structures Inc. (CSI). The performance of the structure was being probabilistically evaluated by the development of fragility curves for the three distinct performance levels, Immediate Occupancy, Life Safety, Collapse Prevention.
