Evaluation of School Magazine.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction of your media product?

The first new media technology I used in the construction of my media product is Photoshop. I used Adobe Photoshop to produce the front cover of my new school magazine. After I had taken multiple images for my main image and had chosen what image I thought was best for the front cover, I converted this onto Photoshop and worked on top of this. I then had to create a colour scheme and decide which fonts I would use for the title of my magazine and the coverlines. As this is not a new software to me, I knew what to do. I then converted my finished design into a Jpeg so I was able to upload it to my blog. Later on in the production of my media product, I used Photoshop again to convert my contents page into a Jpeg so I was able to use it in other things such as my evaluation and upload to my blog.

Another new technology I used for the construction of my media product was QuarkXpress Passport 7.5. It was difficult for me to use this software as it is completely new to me but after a while I eventually developed a skill in it. Firstly, I had to create a new document with a new page for the contents page. Then I had to go through a process of deciding how many columns I wanted my contents page to be. My
final choice was 3 columns. It was then a case of inserting the images I had chosen for my contents page and then had to anchor them with page numbers linked to the articles contained within my contents page. Before this, I had to include the text in a structured

layout so it followed the codes and conventions of a contents page. QuarkXpress was a good software for this as it had the columns set out in a different colour to the background. It was difficult to pick up all of the qualities needed to be able to use QuarkXpress in a professional way. However, I overcame this obstacle and was able to produce a contents page for my new school magazine. Using QuarkXpress in my preliminary exercise has given me a better opportunity to produce a better contents page for my main task.
