ABOUT KAZIRANGA NATIONAL PARK


Kaziranga National Park is one of the only two parks in India wherein you could find one-horned rhinoceros. The park stretches up to 430 sq. km. between Nagaon and Golaghat district of Assam. Along with one-horned rhinoceros the national park is also inhabited with tigers, elephants, panthers, bears, wild buffalos and swamp deer. The Kaziranga National Park is well known for the single horn rhino. Rhino Reserve is distinction of being home to the worlds largest population of the GREAT INDIAN ONE-HORN RHINOCEROS; it is about 1,855 since last count happen last year.

Kaziranga is one of the few wild breeding areas apart from Africa for multiple species of large cats like Indian Tigers and Leopards. Because of this concern, the National Park was declared as Tiger Reserve in 2006. So, visiting here is great experience for anybody to see the animal in their natural habitat with full freedom and less human interference.

TORTOISES AND TURTLE

Tortoises and turtles are found in the water bodies inside Kaziranga National Park. FAUNA
According to latest census, it is estimated that tiger density is high in Kaziranga compared to other National Parks in India. Indian wild boar, eastern mole, pangolin, Indian gaur, Sambar, barking deer, white browed gibbon, hog deer, capped langur or leaf monkey, rhesus macaque, Assamese macaque, leopard, sloth bear, Indian porcupine, fishing cat, jungle cat, large Indian civet, small Indian civet, Indian gray mongoose, small Indian mongoose, Bengal fox, golden jackal, common otter, Chinese ferret badger, hog badger, River dolphin, orangebellied Himalayan squirrel and Asiatic black bear are also found in Kaziranga National Park. Types of snakes found in this park include Black krait, Bengal cobra, banded krait, common kukri snake, checkered keel back water snake, common or longnosed vine snake, copperhead trinket snake, common krait, king cobra, pit vipers, rock python, Russel's viper, reticulated python, rat snake and striped keel back snakes.

Lizards are also commonly found in Kaziranga National Park. Types of lizards include Assam grayish-brown gecko, Assam olive-brown skink, Assam grayishbrown gecko, common Bengal monitor, common Indian skink, dotted garden skink, Indian water monitor, light-olive Assam garden lizard, ticticky house gecko and tuckto gecko. The types of fishes found in National Park include amblypharyngodon mola, Anabas testudineus, xenentodon cancila, amphipnous cuchia, catla catla, bagarius bagarius, channa amphibia, chanda nama, channa marulius, channa punctata, channa orientalis, channa striatus, clarius batrachus, colisa lalius, cirrhina mrigala, eutropiichthys vacha, colisa fasciata, glossogobius giuris, gudiusia chapra, heteropneustes fossilis, labeo calbasu, labeo bata, labeo rohita, labeo gonius, labeo nandina, mastacembelus armatus, mystus cavasius, mystus bleekeri, mystus menoda, mystus vittatus, aorichthys seenghala, nandus nandus, notopterus notopterus, notopterus chitala, ompak pabo, puntius ticto, salmostoma bacaila, puntius sarana, rasbora elenga, tetraodon

You will be thrilled to experience your wild life safari in here. There are two options of Safari, Elephant and Jeep safaris. You could choose the option of Elephant safari till November as you would get a chance to trail in tall elephant grasses which surely would be a unique experience. After November the grass die and is burned so a Jeep Safari would be ideal to spot wild life. There are many options of accommodations available in and around the park.
