Clip Analysis of Romeo And Juliet

By Rage Ali

Clip 1

Camera Shot: Close Up Camera Angle: High Angle Camera Movement: Steadicam I can see in this shot a mask thrown into a lake. One connotation I could draw from this is that its suppose to draw mystery into who the owner is. Another connotation I could draw from this is that the owner is either experiencing pain / anger and thrown away their mask as a result of their pain / anger. I think this is a successful shot because it symbolises what one characters feeling ( and bears significance for a later event). Up until this moment hes not been able to reveal his true self.

Clip 2

Camera Shot: Mid Shot

Camera Angle: Eye Level

Camera Movement:

This shot has been composed in order include the fish tank. One reason why I think they did is because fish are peaceful , quiet , timid animals allowing us (as the audience ) to get into this frame of mind. I think this is effective because the juxtaposition contrasts how the character was before he was entered the room and how he was after.

Clip 3

Camera Shot: Extreme Close Up Camera Angle: Eye Level Camera Movement: This shot has been composed in order exclude the rest of the face. The eye is said to be the window to the soul. I feel the director has chosen this extreme close up to draw intrigue to the character and having the angle at eye level , indirectly lets us know that she is an equal to both people surrounding her and the audience. I feel this is efffective because we are drawn to her and want to find out more about this character.

Shot 5

Camera Shot: Mid-shot

Camera Angle: eye level

Camera Movement: pan

The director has chosen this shot to show the divide in between the two characters. Fishes are again used a symbol of calm and relaxed. I think this shot is effective because of the meaning that the audience can infer that the director wanted this shot to portray serenity.

Clip 6

Camera shot: Low AngleCamera Angle: Shallow Focus Camera Movement: This shot has been composed in order to include the party and make the two characters the focus of the shot. The reason for this is the director has chosen to set the scene and allows us to see whats going on rather than focus on the two main characters .

Clip 6

Camera Shot: Point of view shot Camera Angle: The point of this was to: Let us have an idea of how Juliet was feeling Gives us an idea to the atmosphere Enhances atmosphere
