An example of a video that includes clear evidence of postmodernism is the single Californication, by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers,

released in 2006.

The postmodernistic aspects are clear in this video for all to see. The most obvious feature is hyperreality, which is when the video aims to rid itself of the distinction between real life and its representing image. In the context of this video, the depiction of the band members as both video game characters and in their real form conveys this sense that there is no difference between the two forms.

This is a key feature of postmodernism. Many postmodern authors reflect this in their work by using products that mirror actual products in the real world, in the sense of this video, the use of a video game character. This sense of hype reality is further highlighted by the

performers, as they appear to be floating in the sky as they perform in the performance section of the clip.

This video also contains evidence of the inclusion of pastiche, due to the extended reference to another form of media. As discussed, this is in the form of video game characters.

Although the reference is not directly noted, it is widely accepted that this video uses footage from the popular game Crazy Taxi throughout.

Finally, very minimalistic approach is taken towards this video, in the sense that the contents of the video are very simple. The use of a performance video is very common within music video, and despite this being combined with the vision of a video game character, the video remains very minimalistic.

Furthermore, the lack of any kind of narrative further adds to this minimalistic feel, as the video is very easy for the reader to understand, with the main aim assumingly to entertain/or make the reader laugh. This is further highlighted by much of the video being performance based.
