LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS III PREPARED BY: JINALYN GARCIA I.

OBJECTIVE: at the end of the session, the students will be able to: a. Define the law on the product of the sum and difference of similar terms. b. Formulate the law on the product of the sum and difference of two terms. c. Apply the law on the product of the sum and difference in solving algebraic problems.

II. LEARNING TASKS: A. Subject Matter: Product of the Sum and Difference of Two Terms B. Reference : Mathematics III Textbook C. Material/s : Manila Paper w/ equation written in it III. ACTIVITY PROPER A. PRE ACTIVITY Teachers Activity
Good morning class... Good morning maam! How are you today? (teacher call one student to lead the prayer) You may now take your seats and say present if your name is called. (Students reply present as their name are called.) Okay, last time, we are discussing about the product of binomials w/ different terms. Any question about it? No maam! B. ACTIVITY PROPER Fine maam! (the student called stood up to lead the prayer)

Students Activity

Now, I have here a manila paper with an equation written. Will you please read... (teacher asks one student to read) (teacher called one student to answer) Now, what have you observed on the equation? (Teacher called again one student to answer.) Very good again, what else! Very good! Now, using the distribution method of multiplying binomials, let us see if the answer is correct: (a + b) (a b) = a ab + ab b =a b

(a + b) (a b) = a b

We are multiplying (a + b) and (a b) maam. They are similar binomials, maam. Their product is equal to the difference of their squares.

by distribution

Now, based on the example given, how did we get the product of the sum and difference of two similar terms? Product of the sum and difference of two terms is the difference of their squares.

Very good! Suppose, I have this expression: (3x + y) (3x y) Who will go to the board to find the product? Okay... I maam! (3x + y) (3x y) = 9x -3xy + 3xy y = 9x y C. POST ACTIVITY

Okay let us check if the answer is correct. The law states that the product of the sum and difference of two similar terms is the difference of their squares. What is the square of 3? What is the square of x? What is the square of y? Now applying the law? Why? 9 maam! x maam! y maam! 9x y maam! Because the law states that the product of the sum and difference of two terms is the difference of their squares. Very good! Any question? Is everything clear? Now, will you please get one half sheet of paper! IV. EVALUATION Direction: Find the product of the following: 1. 2. 3. (4c + 4d) (4c 4d) 4 2 4 2 (x + y ) (x y ) 4 4 (5a + b ) (5a b )

No maam! Yes maam!

V. ASSIGNMENT Answer this problem at home: 1. (a + b) (a + b + c) 2. (a - b) (a b)
