Dear Dr. Bowman, The school year has kicked off to a great start so far in our media center!

With the beginning of school brings a lot of activity at once. Im excited to have Ms. Turner, the new paraprofessional, in our media center this year. She has been extremely helpful so far in aiding in the new school year setup of the library and is definitely a quick learner! We are very fortunate to have her here with us! One of my important focuses this month has been making sure that uReserve is up and running and that all of the teachers, old and new, understand how to use it. Im excited about how many classes have signed up for library time so far! Ive also assisted many classes in the computer lab with setting up the students on USA Test Prep and the new Gmail systems. 9th grade orientation was a success. We were able to get all of the 9th graders in the library within the first two weeks of school. Ms. Turner and I introduced them to our collection and how it is set up, how the computers work, the new lookup stations, and explained how our school store and printers work. I am always amazed at how many students the school store attracts and hope that this year will be even better. We were also able to complete orientation for the PreK children from our ECE class. Weve had many amazing books donated to the collection over the summer that I know the PreK children will love! The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl introduction meeting was a success. We have many interested and talented students and I see great things in the future for our team. Most of our books on the list are already checked out! In anticipation of a future book order, Ive put out wish list cards for the students to fill out. Ive had some great responses and am looking forward to using these for some type of activity during Teen Read Week. Ms. Turner and I have been compiling ideas for competitions, displays, and activities for that week and have already come up with some great ideas with the help of the students. I am so excited about how the beginning of the year has gone thus far, and cant wait to see what is to come! Stop by and see us any time! Ms. Taylor Ms. Turner
