If a person tests the James River and local lakes they will find that the James River has more impurities. The independent variables are pH, Phosphate, Nitrate, and Total Alkinity, and the water source. The dependent variables are the amount of nitrate and phosphate and the levels of pH and total Alkinity are in the water. The control is tap water. The constant is shorelines of the water, the test kit, application of the strips. First I went to the local lake and tested the amount of nitrate and phosphate and the levels of pH and total Alkinity. Then I went to the James River and did the same. After that I did the experiment on tap water.
