1. Lokmanya Tilak
Objective: The contents were generally about the people's sufferings under the British. These newspapers called upon every Indian to fight for his or her rights.
2. Mahatma Gandhi
Objective: One of the objects of the newspapers was to understand the popular feeling and give expression to it; another was to arouse among the people certain desirable sentiments, and the third is fearlessly expose popular defects. 3. Babasaheb Ambedkar
Objective: Through this journal, Mr. Ambedkar clarified his own ideas on the various aspects of the movement that he had initiated.
4. Mahatma Phule
Objective: Deenbandhu publication, the mouthpiece of the Satya Shodhak Samaj, played an important role in SatyaShodhak Samajs movement to liberate the Shudras and Ati Shudras.
Newspaper Name: Sambad Kaumudi (Weekly) Establishment Year: 1821 *Sambad Kaumudi became bi-weekly in January 1830 and continued for 33 years.
Objectives: Being an activist, he steadily opposed social atrocities like Sati and child marriage through his publications.
*He was the first editor of Kesari, which was started by Lokmanya Tilak. He subsequently left Kesari out of ideological differences with Mr. Tilak concerning the primacy of political reform versus social reform; with Agarkar believing that the need for social reform was more immediate.
Objective: In Sudharak Mr. Agarkar campaigned against the injustices of untouchability and the caste system.
