My course work has allowed me to become familiar with the legal realm including studying the American judicial system in detail, recent cases, set precedents, and an analysis of public policy. I have also become very comfortable in my drafting and writing skills. In addition, as a part of the Chicago Civic Leadership Certificate program, I gained valuable experience in the non-profit world and gained insight into engaging communities through social reform. I actively engaged in leadership positions at three various organizations; The Organic School Project, The Inspiration Corporation, and The Latino Union. My time was allotted towards researching fundraising tactics, writing grants, and creating an interactive community map for the organizations website. I excel in an environment that encourages teamwork and leadership. Given my technical knowledge, academic achievements, and fieldwork experience in the non-profit world, I believe I am the perfect candidate for the student summer internship offered at the Lambda Legal firm.
