ABSTRACT

In Indonesia, concrete masonry unit (MSU) has been widely used as a walls constituent materials because it has advantages such as workability, faster construction phase, economical and environmentally friendly. Experimental testing was conducted to determine the effect on steel bar reinforcement for flexural capasity of cellular hollow concrete blocks in its applications to withstand the seismic force that occur in Indonesia. Dimension of concrete masonry wall specimens is 179 cm x 59 cm with 14 cm thick. Variation of specimens, namely: concrete masonry walls without reinforcement (DBP), concrete masonry walls by using steel bar reinforcement 4, 5 mm (DBT 4.5), concrete masonry wall by using steel bar reinforcement 6 mm (DBT 6), concrete masonry wall by using steel bar reinforcement 8 mm (DBT 8). The walls were tested under static lateral loads perpendicular to its plane. The test result processed to determine the capacity moment and ductility. Research has continuing to implement these walls in residential buildings are one floor 54 type. Seismic forces in residential buildings was simulated by using the program SAP2000 and ultimate moment from modeling compared to the maximum capacity moment by testing. The results of modeling, has the capacity moment 1 meter width of concrete masonry walls . DBP has capacity moment 0,38 kNm/m, whereas DBT 4,5, DBT 6 and DBT 8 has capacity moment 4,83 kNm/m, 5,33 kNm/m and 8,60 kNm/m. Steel bar reinforcement can increase the ductility and capacity moment of concrete masonry walls between 10 to 16 times greater. Deflection was 2 to 6 times greater than concrete masonry walls without reinforcement. From SAP2000 modeling, concrete masonry walls without reinforcement cannot be applied in any earthquake area in Indonesia. Whereas the concrete masonry walls with reinforcement can be applied to the area that has seismic magnitude of the earthquake such as the city of Manokwari.
