uly 2nd found beautifully attired friends of The Advocates enjoying the fabulous High Street Bank, strolling outside the Limelight Room to peruse the incredible silent auction offerings and basking in the beauty of summer in Sun Valley. At the end of the evening, we recorded our most successful event ever, with proceeds in excess of $150,000. There were many highlights of the evening, one being the showstopping outfit worn by our co-chair Carol Harlig.

SILENT PARTNERS
There are many businesses and individuals in the community who support us on a daily basis, with no interest in recognition. We depend on these concerned, supportive folks to be there when we need them, and to allow us to do our work. We would like to highlight just a few of these organizations here. The Staff of Lifethese beautiful, healthful loaves from Bigwood Bread just appear in the shelter regularly, often in the evening when we most need sustenance.

Thank you!!

The Ketchum Grill provided a beautiful appreciation luncheon outside on their patio. We were delighted to be able to honor Nancie Krankkala, the volunteer manager of The Attic, and Jane Blair, who volunteered for many years as our bookkeeper.

hIGhLIGhTING NEW BOARD MEMBERS

ThE ADVOcATES ATTIc

he Advocates for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault are pleased to announce several additions to our Board of Directors. Mari J. Clack has served as President of the University of Washington Board of Regents, and is Co-founder and Past President of the Women Helping Women Fund of Spokane. She has contributed to more than 20 non-profit boards, and we are delighted to add her wisdom to our organization. Cecilia Munoz is a Lender at First Bank of Idaho, and brings her expertise in Finance to the Board. Maureen Schwendener is Past President of the Board of Family Shelter Service in Illinois, and owns Art Quest West in Ketchum. Her leadership experience with domestic violence is particularly welcome. Joanne Wetherell is the owner of Remax of Sun Valley/Hailey and a well respected member of our community. She is a Founding Member of the Wood River Womens Charitable Foundation and serves the valley on the board of Community Holiday Baskets and Sawtooth Board of Realtors. Along with newly elected Board President Reuben Perin, the entire board looks forward to increasing our visibility in the Wood River Valley and expanding opportunities for the many women and children we serve. v

n December of 2003 we opened the Advocates Attic, a new and used resale store in Hailey. We have been delighted that over 1000 families have donated goods, so that we can provide no cost household items for our clients and low cost items for all in the valley whose incomes do not stretch to include basic needs of clothing, household goods and childrens items. Often a victim flees a violent home without any material possessions to sustain herself and her family; therefore, immediate access to goods is important to her ability to function on a daily basis, as well as bringing some sense of balance to life. We have many volunteers who help at The Attic. v

our generous support and that of many other individuals, foundations, businesses, and service clubs, helped over 500 women and children escape violence in their homes last year. This support also helped over 3,000 people prevent domestic violence in our community due to education provided to them by The Advocates. Over the year, our staff assisted women suffering from humiliating sexual assaults, physical injuries including broken bones, heart wrenching disputes over child custody and visitation, and deep emotional scars from ongoing verbal and psychological abuse. Clients reported that these contacts changed their lives. One woman stated I would have died if it hadnt been for The Advocates. The staff were there for me during my darkest time. My son no longer has nightmares and is doing well in school. For the first time we feel safe. No one should experience the pain of abuse. Thank you for providing the support needed for our staffs incredibly challenging work to provide safety and initiate change in abused women and childrens lives.
