Circle all that apply: Is this organism a(n): Invertebrate Vertebrate Predator Prey Autotroph Heterotroph Herbivore Carnivore Omnivore Decomposer

Special Adaptations:
The most obvious one is, the huge upper canine teeth. These were an adaptation to preying on large animals - the larger the teeth, the larger the prey the animal can kill. The powerful forequarters are also an adaptation to killing big animals - they were used to pin down the prey so that the killing bite could be delivered. This was important because the long teeth were quite brittle, and could easily be broken if the cat tried to bite a struggling animal.

Niche:
The saber toothed tigers niche was a large carnivore. They hunted big game animals like bison, horses, deer, American camels, juvenile mammoths and mastodons.
