Information for Parents From April 2013, families with a 2 year old child, who are accessing certain benefits, are able to have a free early years place for their child. In order to be eligible, the family must be receiving at least one of: Income Support / Income Based Jobseekers Allowance / Child Tax Credit with income less than 16,190 and not receiving Working Tax Credit / Support under part VI of the immigration and asylum act 1999 / Guarantee element of State Pension Credit. Children born between 1 January and 31 March 2011 can have a place from April 2013 1 April and 31 August 2011 from September 2013 1 September and 31 December 2011 from January 2014 The free place will provide up to 15 hours a week, term-time only at an Ofsted registered early years provider of your choice. That provider might be a Leading Childminder, Preschool Playgroup or Day Nursery. Parents are able to use the entitlement flexibly and the exact times will be agreed between parent and provider.
