Immigration Essay

My grandmother was born in China. However when she was twenty she had to immigrate to Taiwan to escape the government. When my grandmother lived in China she lived in a one-story house in the city of Fuzhou. Because the government had been arresting the rich people as part of their communism act the country soon became very poor. People were chased out of their houses and a lot of the rich people were arrested and their properties and money confiscated by the government. With the government handing out tickets for food and necessities, people didnt need to work anymore and soon the people became very poor. Crime and starvation was everywhere and the soldiers of the government killed a lot of people who tried to stop them. The government claimed to be doing this for the sake of the country but in truth they were using communism as an excuse to take the richs land and money for their own. As a result the people were living in poverty and the government was taking over. My grandma was twenty when she married my grandpa who was a KMT soldier. Because, he did not support the communists, my grandpa thought it would be safer to immigrate somewhere else. He received a grant from the KMT government to buy tickets so that he and my grandma could move to Taiwan where they could be safe. The traveled on a boat to Taiwan where most of the people who did not support the communists had already moved to. There in Taiwan, there was no civil war and there were also jobs. Because my grandma and grandpa had used most of their money to buy the tickets to Taiwan, they were very poor and had little belongings. They could only afford a small house and they had to find jobs.
