Does God travel in Delhi Metro?

New Delhi, 31st October 2012: The Delhi Metro is a blessing to the average daily ridership of 1.8 million commuters who travel in this rapid transit system's six lines with 142 stations, a combination of elevated, at-grade and underground lines. The lifeline of Delhi, one can see women rushing to work, covering their heads and digging out their mini religious hymns, prayers and scriptures to usher in a new day. Thus making us wonder does god travel in the Delhi Metro? The Delhi Metro operates around 2,700 trips daily between 6 o clock to 11 o clock. And looking around at these women, eyes cast down in obeisance, a prayer on their lips, it felt like a congregation pretty much like the prayer in Mecca that Hajis recite in unison or sing and dance sequence that religious enthusiasts perform in Jagrans. The only difference in the metro is the absence of blaring and ear deafening loudspeakers. In the never-ending pace of Delhi and deadlines to meet, it is the daily commute in metro that provides a place to do those activities which find no place in day to day life. It is amazing to see these women whisper as if they were reciting a secret prayer for the good of the world and then women share a smile. Prayer is not the only thing that finds time. People use this time to talk to friends and family. Reading newspaper is yet another activity. There is a unity in diversity in every coach. People from all walks of life, sit together and do similar things. Midst all this, they recognize each other as nothing more than fellow travellers who sit in the same metro line every day at the same time. On reading a supplement of a leading newspaper, which has a column of writing messages to loved ones, I came across a couple of messages addressed to people who travel to with each other in metro. It wouldnt be wrong to say that Metro exemplifies Delhis Metro. Shouldn't Deity be where his devotees are? I found HIM, travelling with me, with us, in our very own Delhi Metro. What better way to welcome a new day?
