Overall & Specific Expectations Use the elements of design (colour, line, shape, form, space, texture) in ways appropriate for this grade, when producing/responding to works of art Describe how the ideas in a variety of art works relate to their own knowledge and experiences Recognize/name the secondary colours (purple, orange, green), describe how these can be created by mixing primary colours Describe different ways in which materials, tools, techniques can be used Identify strengths and areas for improvement in their own and others art work Produce 2 & 3D works of art that communicate ideas, thoughts, feelings, experiences Describe the relationship between an art work and their own experiences Make artistic choices in their work, using a variety of elements of design Identify and describe a variety of textures Describe textures that are real in art works (e.g. smooth surface of a piece of pottery) and those that are illusory (e.g. rough texture of bark in a 2D painting) Identify characteristics of a variety of lines Use correctly vocabulary and terminology associated with the specific expectations for this grade Explain how artists use the elements of design to communicate feelings and convey ideas State preference for a specific work and defend their choice with reference to own interests/experience and the artists use of design elements Identify symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes in both human-made and natural world
