NME Magazine Analysis

By Rage Ali

The layout of this front cover uses quite unconventional male colours such as pink. I think however, it does work against a dark blue backgroud as it makes the text stand out.

The name NME is in the corner. I think this is interesting because most magazines e.g; Vibe Magazine had their institution in a more central location. I think what NME have done is that they might feel that people have bought of the magazine because of the content and not the actual institution but I think the colours of the logo still makes it very visible on the page because red is a colour that conotates with commanding attention and it still does that to a certain effect.

In this case it would be the chance to win VIP festival tickets. This would entice consumers because of the fact that its free and gig tickets are costly and the fact that they win signed merchandise which no one else would have. This relates to the idea of escapism and a form entertainment and exclusivity because a small number of people will not own signed merchandise.

The picture is of Pete Doherty. He is not wearing a t shirt and we can see that physically something is wrong with him e.g; couldve done drugs. I think in this type of genre its more widely accepted because often people who take illegal substances perform better and are in a better creative place. The purpose of sell lines is to give consumers a better idea of what the issue contains should be able to sell the magazine , hence the name. In this front cover I think they do because we see that NMEs approach is more emotional and more about the actual music and the process of creating it. I think I could use this as inspiration because it would seem that my magazine is more about their artists music rather than their persona.

The purpose of extras is to make the consumer feel that the money they have spent on or to include something that they may not got otherwise. In terms of NME their extras are the opinions they provide on up and coming bands and I think I could use this as inspiration for my music magazine.
