Standard Driving

January 8, 2011 Introduction Before ever starting vehicle and when shutting off, gear lever must be in neutral position and hand brake must be in upward position. The function of the clutch is to put the vehicle into motion when released or stop the vehicle from moving when depressed. Before clutch is applied a small amount of brake is applied first followed by successive depression of clutch straight to floor of vehicle. When going up a gradient, and stop was done, clutch is released halfway up first before releasing the brake. This prevents backward movement of the vehicle downhill. However, when vehicle had stopped and is on a flat surface, brake is released first followed by very slow release of the clutch. Before shutting off the vehicle, gear lever must be in neutral position and handbrake must be brought upwards before releasing the clutch and brake gently.

January 22, 2011 Gear Changing When changing gear, for example from gear one to two it is necessary to sink the clutch to the floor of the vehicle then freely move into the required gear. After this the clutch is released slowly. When vehicle stops gear MUST be returned to one before moving off again. Gear one is the one through which all transitions occur. That is, in order to reverse, etc.

January 28, 2011 Reversing When reversing it is necessary to first sink the clutch to the floor then move the gear into reverse. Slowly release the clutch while using rear view mirrors as guide. When approaching the stop use the brake and clutch as usual then RETURN TO ONE GEAR.

February 5/ May 28, 2011 Parking In order to park it is necessary to watch the rear view mirror and the back of the vehicle. Turn the wheel entirely in the direction where the vehicle is to go. Sink the clutch and place in REVERSE GEAR. Then slowly releasing the clutch, move the vehicle into the parking space. Alternate between one gear and reverse gear to straighten the vehicle and reverse accordingly.

May 28, 2011 Prelimnary uphill, downhill driving When going up a gradient it is necessary to increase pressure on the gas pedal. On the other hand, the brake pedal is used slowly when descending a gradient.
